April Fool's Day?
Where did it originate?

Have you considered why there is an April fools day? Who originated it? When did it begin?

Why is it annually observed? These questions have an answer to them; it may not be the answer one might expect, however. Nevertheless, we offer the following comments in the hopes to stimulate thinking beyond that of the mundane and profane and silly foolish pranks which so often accompany the first day of the fourth month of the year.

The Chronological Bible dates the day of man being created by Almighty God as April 1, 3975 B.C. Why would one want to mock that glorious event unless, of course, he were an absolute fool? It is believed by Frank R. Klessen - and accepted as quite feasible by this preacher - that our LORD JESUS CHRIST was born on April 1, 5 B. C. The reason for 5 B. C. is due to an error in the calendar which occurred when a Catholic priest was attempting to change calendars. This mistake was not caught in time and has become a standard feature of calculating time. Jesus, therefore, died in A. D. 29 at the age of 33 and one half.

As a rejection of Jesus Christ as LORD GOD Almighty, Sovereign ruler of HIS universe, puny man mocked God and HIS crowning creation which the Bible teaches is man, by playing foolish tricks upon one another on the first day in April. Thus man attempted to deride God and HIS glorious creation.

Be sure, dear friends, God will have the last laugh. Holy Scripture says in Psalm 2:4, "HE (THE LORD GOD ALMIGHTY) that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the LORD shall have them (the wicked, raging heathen in derision." The term derision comes from the Hebrew word "la`ag" and it simply means "to laugh to scorn." Or to cause to speak unintelligibly." In short, God shall repay the mockers with His Holy mocking.

For those surrounded by pranksters, who will play foolish little games, you might share with them what you have read.

May God be glorified in each of our lives!

Sincerely,

Pastor John S. Brown
